The main media Center for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games has opened its doors to receive media from around the world.

In the main media center, a group of giant mascots of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were hung above the stadium, looking silly and charming. Journalists from all over the world have focused on this group of festive and auspicious lanterns, as a symbolic lens of news reporting and live broadcasting, telling the wonderful story of Beijing 2022 to the world.

This group of mascot lanterns came from Zigong, Sichuan province, and took two months to complete. Their association with the Winter Olympic Games also showed the world the traditional artistic charm of Zigong lanterns as the world intangible cultural heritage.

In early November last year, the cultural activities department of the Organizing committee of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games hoped to use traditional lantern technology to produce a group of mascot lanterns to welcome guests from all over the world and show traditional Chinese culture at the same time. After receiving the task, the core members of our Zigong lantern production team immediately went to Beijing to make a field visit to the main media center and formulate the implementation plan for the lighting group.

The mascots of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games are huge in size. The lantern group consists of the Beijing Winter Olympics mascot bing Dwen Dwen, The Beijing Winter Paralympics mascot Xue Rong Rong, and the paper-cut elements of clouds and snowflakes. "Bing Dwen Dwen" combines the image of a panda with the shell of ice crystals rich in super energy, reflecting the characteristics of winter ice sports and modern technology. "Xue Rong Rong" is designed and created with Chinese symbolic lanterns. The lanterns are colored in "Chinese red" to create a festive atmosphere for the Chinese New Year. The lights are illuminated inside, meaning to light up dreams and warm the world, representing friendship, courage and strength, reflecting the fighting spirit of winter Paralympic athletes and the concept of winter Paralympic Games to inspire the world. The mascot welcomes the friends coming from afar with the posture of traveling in space!
